Matt Flynn trade: Raiders, Seahawks deal expected to be finalized ‘soon’

The Raiders believe they found the quarterback of the future with Matt Flynn.

Joe Nicholson-US PRESSWIRE

The Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks are close to making a trade that would send quarterback Matt Flynn to the AFC, according to Pro Football Talk.

The terms of a potential deal aren’t known, but it’s widely speculated that a couple draft picks will be the compensation, perhaps of the mid-round variety.

Oakland’s second-year general manager Reggie McKenzie has stripped the team down to the bare bones in hopes of getting the salary cap straightened out, and now is on the verge of bringing in Flynn.

With the acquisition of Flynn, Oakland will most likely release quarterback Carson Palmer to create a roster spot and some cap room while Terrelle Pryor becomes the primary backup.

Flynn, formerly a seventh round pick of the Green Bay Packers, signed with Seattle before last season with the idea of becoming a starter. However, Flynn lost the quarterback competition to Russell Wilson, who led the team to the NFC Divisional playoffs.
