Jake Long declared healthy before start of free agency

Long is in great shape and looking for big money.

Miami Dolphins offensive tackle Jake Long has a "clean bill of health," according to Yahoo's Jason Cole.

Long got the healthy diagnosis from Dr. James Andrews this week. Long, 27, played in just 12 games last year because of a triceps injury. Andrews said Long is “in the best shape he has seen the player in years,” according to Cole:

“I just saw him [Wednesday] and he looked great,” said Andrews, who did surgery to repair a ruptured left triceps injury that cost Long the final four games of the 2012 season.

[...]

“I asked him about his knee and he said it’s the best he has felt in years,” Andrews said. “Like I said, this is the kind of kid you want. I’m not worried about him at all.”

Long is scheduled to become a free agent next week. He was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 NFL Draft by the Dolphins. He was one of the game’s best, young left tackles over his first three years in the league, but injuries have made him a question mark in the Dolphins’ eyes.

Long is reportedly looking for $11 million annually, and that’s a scary thought for fans at The Phinsider.

The Dolphins reportedly offered Long a five-year extension before the 2012 season, but are now weary of his health. Before he was injured last season, Long wasn’t very good either. Pro Football Focus writes that some teams might view Long as damaged goods.
