Eric Winston rumors: Eagles, Texans reportedly first teams to contact tackle

Winston is set to be released by the Chiefs soon.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

Eric Winston hasn't been on the market yet for a whole day, but he already has suitors.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Houston Texans are interested in the right tackle, according to Les Bowen of the Philadelphia Daily News. Winston was released by the Kansas City Chiefs on Wednesday. Winston has tweeted that he's been released, but the team hasn't made an official announcement.

Jason Brewer at Bleeding Green Nation breaks down what the line would look like if the Eagles sign Winston:

If the Eagles are actually interested (which at this point in the process is VERY suspect) and if they sign him, Winston would presumably slot in at RT with Todd Herremans going to guard. If you get Jason Peters back on the left next to Evan Mathis and Jason Kelce is back in the middle... you've got yourself the makings of a potentially very good line.

Winston, 29, was a third-round pick in the 2006 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans. He spent the first six seasons of his career in Houston, appearing in 92 games. He hasn’t missed a game since his rookie year in 2006, when he played in just 12 games and started seven. He’s started all 96 games over the last six seasons.

The Chiefs signed Winston to a four-year, $22 million contract before the 2012 season. He was set to be a $6.5 million cap hit over the next three seasons, but the Chiefs were able save money by cutting him.
