Bears have interest in bringing back Jason Campbell, according to report

Chicago would like to hang on to the veteran quarterback, who served as Jay Cutler’s backup last season.

The Chicago Bears would like to retain reserve quarterback Jason Campbell to back up Jay Cutler, according to a report from Sean Jensen of the Chicago Sun-Times. Campbell signed a one-year deal with the team worth $3.5 million last offseason and is free to ink with another team once the free agent signing period begins on March 12.

Campbell didn't have the opportunity to play much for Chicago in 2012 -- he appeared in six games, including one as the starter, and threw a total of 51 passes. He brings a lot of experience to the table, though; Campbell was a multi-year starter for the Washington Redskins and has made 71 starts over the course of his eight-year career.

In terms of quarterback rating, his best season came with Washington in 2009, when he completed 64.5 percent of his throws for 3,618 yards, 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.
