Oakland Raiders defensive tackle Tommy Kelly is expecting to be released by the team, according to the San Francisco Gate.
2013 NFL free agents: Tommy Kelly expects to be released by Raiders
After nine seasons with Oakland, Kelly is preparing for it to come to an end.
Kelly signed a lucrative, seven-year contract extension worth just over $50 million back in 2008. After nine season with the Raiders, Kelly says he hasn’t heard from anyone in the organization since the end of the season. Kelly is 32 years old and could still have a year or two left in the tank.
Kelly was a consistent component of the Raiders’ defensive line, starting all 16 games in each of the last five seasons. He only recorded one sack this last year, though, after piling up 14.5 sacks in the two previous seasons combined.
The Raiders also have other defensive linemen set to hit free agency. Defensive ends Richard Seymour and Matt Shaughnessy, along with Desmond Bryant and Andre Carter, are going to hit the open market on Tuesday. By next fall, Oakland's defensive line will have a much different look.
