Michael Bennett may have played his last game in a Tampa Bay Buccaneers uniform.
NFL free agency 2013: Michael Bennett drawing lots of interest
The Buccaneers may end up losing their top pass rusher as he’s entering his prime.
The defensive end has an expiring contract and has already been contacted by multiple teams since the “legal tampering” period of NFL free agency opened last night at 12 a.m. eastern time, according to the Tampa Bay Times.
Bennett is one of the top 4-3 defensive ends on the market, especially after the Bengals placed he franchise tag on Michael Johnson. Last season, Bennett collected nine sacks for the Buccaneers. At just 27 years old, Bennett's best football could be in front of him, as last season's nine sacks more than doubled his previous career high of four.
Bennett went undrafted in 2009 before being picked up by the Seahawks. Since joining the Bucs later that year, he has emerged as the team's best pass rusher. If he walks, Da'Quan Bowers will be tasked with filling his shoes. Given Bowers' performance thus far in his career, it's a big question mark whether he will be up to the task.
