Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo received a hefty contract to keep him with the team through what will likely be the rest of his career. We've known that it's a seven-year contract worth close to $120 million, but Albert Breer of the NFL Network released some more details, including the year-by-year numbers for Romo's deal.

The Dallas Cowboys are paying Tony Romo an awful lot of money over the next seven years, including a $25 million signing bonus, which is fully guaranteed.
The most notable number is the fact that Romo received a $25 million signing bonus, spread out over the first five years of the contract in $5 million increments. There’s also the year-by-year base salaries to note: $1.5 million in 2013, $13.5 million in 2014, $17 million in 2015, $8.5 million in 2016, $14 million in 2017, $19.5 million in 2018, and $20.5 million in 2019.
Those are some pretty big numbers, especially when he gets to $17 million in 2015. If Romo finds himself playing poorly by that point, the contract numbers could lead to his release, though there’s $40 million in guaranteed money all together.
Romo’s cap hit for the 2013 season is around $11 million, which the Cowboys can afford at this point. Romo has been very good for the Cowboys since joining the league in 2005. Last season, he had 4,903 yards with 28 touchdowns against 19 interceptions. Most feel that locking up Romo was a smart move due to the fact that just about every QB-needy team in the league would certainly be interested in his services, but the hefty price tag is a little unexpected.
