Buccaneers sign Eric Wright to non-guaranteed contract

Tampa Bay has retained the cornerback with a restructuring that doesn’t guarantee him anything for the 2013 season.

Jeff Griffith-US PRESSWIRE

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have restructured the contract of cornerback Eric Wright, turning what was once a five-year contract into a deal with one year remaining for $1.5 million, according to Rick Stroud.

Wright signed one of the largest deals of the offseason in 2012 when he came to Tampa Bay from the Detroit Lions for $38.5 million. However, the signing turned out to be a huge letdown for the Buccaneers, who watched Wright struggle mightily throughout the season.

On top of his on-field issues, Wright was also hit with a four-game PED suspension last year.

Over the past few months, there have been rumors of Tampa Bay trying to acquire corner Darrelle Revis from the New York Jets. According to Stephen Holder, the restructuring of Wright's deal won't affect any potential negotiations to bring in Revis.

The price for Revis would be steep, likely in the neighborhood of at least one first-round pick and potentially two, with other selections in following rounds involved.
