After acquiring Matt Flynn as the assumed-starter at quarterback, it appears that the Oakland Raiders have found a veteran to compete for the backup position. At least, that is probably what Flynn is hoping after the Raiders reportedly signed Seneca Wallace on Wednesday, according to Jason LaCanfora.

The Raiders continue their rebuild at the quarterback position, adding a veteran with three times as many career starts as the other Oakland QBs combined. What value can Wallace provide next season?

The Raiders finished 4-12 last season and though they retained head coach Dennis Allen are not averse to a rebuild process. The main part of that rebuild included trading low draft picks to acquire Flynn from the Seattle Seahawks, and then acquiring low draft picks from the Arizona Cardinals in exchange for Carson Palmer. With just Flynn and Terrelle Pryor on the depth chart up to this point, Raiders quarterbacks had combined for three career starts.
Wallace, a fourth-round pick of the Seahawks in 2003, has made 21 career starts for Seattle and Cleveland. His best season came in 2008 when he made eight starts and threw for 1,532 yards, 11 touchdowns and three interceptions with a quarterback rating of 87.0. His most memorable moment in the NFL, perhaps coming from a different angle, occurred when he caught a 28-yard pass in the 2005 NFC Championship game against the Carolina Panthers.
For years Wallace refused to switch from quarterback to receiver, and he’s proven a lot of people wrong by sticking in the league for seven seasons. Now he just has to go win a job in Oakland.
