Redskins moving Darryl Tapp to LB

Tapp has played seven years in the NFL at defensive end.

Howard Smith-US PRESSWIRE

Washington Redskins defensive end Darryl Tapp is moving to outside linebacker, according to Mike Jones of the Washington Post.

Tapp's move from defensive end comes as he attempts to adapt to the Redskins' 3-4 alignment. Tapp played the last three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles and spent the four before that playing defensive end for the Seattle Seahawks, who drafted him in the second round of the 2006 draft.

Tapp, who has 257 tackles and 24 sacks in seven NFL seasons, likely currently stands as the Redskins' third left outside linebacker behind Pro Bowl honoree Ryan Kerrigan and Bryan Kehl, Jones said. Kehl can play inside linebacker, which may be necessary. London Fletcher will be 38 at the beginning of the season and Keenan Robinson is returning from a torn pectoral muscle.

Tapp played in 13 games last year for the Eagles, totaling 16 tackles and one fumble recovery.
