2013 NFL draft buzz: Star Lotulelei visits Eagles

Two of the two prospects in this year’s draft class visited the Eagles over the weekend. Here’s a look at the latest in Philadelphia, along with the other top storylines from the weekend.

With the 2013 NFL Draft right around the corner, NFL teams are lining up a few more visits to conclude their final preparations. Expect the next week to be filled with players on the move.

Two top prospects visited with the Eagles over the weekend. Aside from the news in Philly, what else made headlines from this past weekend? Let's take a look.

Star Lotulelei, Lane Johnson visit Eagles

There’s no telling where Philadelphia will go with the No. 4 pick in the draft. With the medical concerns put behind him, Lotulelei could by vying for a spot with the Eagles. SB Nation’s Dan Kadar ranks him as the No. 2 overall player in this year’s class. He would anchor the middle of the line for Chip Kelly’s new defense.

Johnson might be a bit of a reach, but Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher could both be off the board at that point. If the Eagles are wanting to improve their offensive line, Johnson is next on the list for offensive tackles.

Giants hoping for Chance Warmack?

New York would "love the opportunity" to take Warmack, according to Tony Pauline of Draft Insider. The Giants still need help on the offensive line, and if Warmack slides that far, he could be the smart choice. Will he last that long, though? Falling to No. 19 might actually be a stretch for one of the top-rated guards in the draft.

Dolphins could trade up for offensive line help

Miami loaded up on talent in free agency. One glaring hole remaining, though, lies within the offensive line. Left tackle Jake Long left for St. Louis, and the Dolphins have yet to find a replacement for him.

With the No. 12 overall pick, waiting for a tackle might not be plausible. As mentioned above, Joeckel and Fisher will go early. Johnson shouldn't last past San Diego at No. 11. The Dolphins' only option may be trading up to acquire a tackle to play opposite Jonathan Martin.

Matt Scott better than Nick Foles?

Scott apparently possesses more upside than his predecessor at Arizona, one NFL scout told the National Football Post. Mobility is one of his strong suites. Last year Foles went in Round 3 to the Eagles. If other teams believe the same about Scott, he could be off the board on the second day of the draft.

Mike Mayock high on Jarvis Jones

Mayock was highly critical of Jones after his pro day, calling the linebacker's poor 40 time a "red flag" at the end of workouts. However, Mayock rates Jones as the best 4-3 outside linebacker this year. The Pittsburgh Steelers came up as a landing spot in the discussion. Jones could be a good fit at No. 17 overall.
