Jairus Byrd wants a long-term contract extension, and if the Bills don't give him one, he isn't going to be around the team anytime soon. Byrd is not expected to attend Buffalo's offseason conditioning program starting on Tuesday, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com.

The Bills used their franchise tag on Jairus Byrd prior to free agency but the young safety has yet to sign his one-year tender. Now he doesn’t plan on showing up to voluntary workouts.

The Bills placed a franchise tag on Byrd early in March, giving the 26-year-old safety a one-year contract worth $6.9 million. The two sides were discussing a long-term deal leading up to free agency, but negotiations failed to produce agreeable terms.
Now it’s difficult to tell when Byrd will actually rejoin his team. Mandatory workouts don’t begin until June 11, and it’s unclear if he will even be present for the start of minicamp.
An extension wouldn’t come cheap for the Bills. Byrd and his agent are reportedly looking for numbers similar to Eric Weddle’s contract. Weddle signed a five-year, $40 million deal with $19 million guaranteed back in 2011. This year he’s set to make $6 million in base salary.
Byrd and Broncos offensive tackle Ryan Clady remain the only two players who haven't signed their franchise tenders.
