Brian Orakpo injury update: Redskins LB is ‘100 percent’

Brian Orakpo missed the majority of 2012 with a pectoral tear. Now he’s ready to get back to work with the Washington Redskins.

Patrick Smith

After suffering a torn pectoral muscle in Week 2 against the St. Louis Rams last season, Brian Orakpo looks like he is back to full strength and ready to get started in 2013. The Washington Redskins linebacker said he's "100 percent" recovered from the injury, according to Tarik El-Bashir of CSN Washington.

Orakpo didn’t indicate how involved he will be in the Redskins offseason workouts. He seems to feel good about his his progress after undergoing surgery last year, though.

Rehab has been going tremendously well. I’m 100-percent ...to be honest, I’m great, man, my body is feeling even better than what it was before as far as conditioning and strength-wise. Because one thing when you get hurt is you get to work on all the little muscles that you have a tendency to [overlook].

As El-Bashir notes, head coach Mike Shanahan originally expected Orakpo’s recovery to be complete in February. He should be ready to fully participate soon, at least by the time minicamp rolls around.

Orakpo recorded 28.5 sacks in his first three seasons with the Redskins. Their defense will be happy have him back after finishing tied for 23rd in total sacks last year.
