Emmanuel Sanders reportedly content to play with 1-year contract

The wide receiver could still work out a long term deal with the Steelers, but he and his agent say they are more than happy to see how things play out after his one year contract expires.

Despite the best efforts of the New England Patriots and several other NFL teams, wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders will play for the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013. The restricted free agent signed a one year, $2.5 million tender, and is happy to play for a one-year contract then move on in 2014, according to the Post Gazette's Ed Bouchette.

The Patriots signed Sanders to an offer sheet, but the Steelers ultimately opted to match the offer and bring him back for another year. Pittsburgh already lost their leading receiver from last year when Mike Wallace left for the Miami Dolphins, and losing Sanders was too big of a risk for the team. They may still work out a long term contract with Sanders, but his agent, Jordan Woy, said he is open to playing this season and then testing the waters of unrestricted free agency.

Sanders is entering his fourth season in the NFL, and caught 44 passes for 626 yards and a touchdown in 2012, career highs in terms of receptions and yardage.
