NFL Draft 2013: Lane Johnson believes Eagles could take him at No. 4

Lane Johnson believes he could be selected No. 4 overall by the Eagles. The organization has certainly given him plenty of attention, working him out in private earlier this month before bringing him in for a visit this past Sunday.

Lane Johnson has now had a private workout and a predraft visit with the Philadelphia Eagles. When prodded by Jeff McLane of the Philadelphia Inquirer, Johnson said "it's a good possibility" that he will be drafted by the Eagles at No. 4 overall in the 2013 NFL Draft.

“What they’re going to do offensively really fits what I excel at -- up-tempo, zone offense,” Johnson told the Inquirer. “But you never know what’s going to happen come draft day.”

Johnson is one of three left tackle prospects, along with Luke Joeckel and Eric Fisher, projected as potential top-5 picks in this year's draft. Johnson is usually rated as the third-best prospect among the three, but he has seemingly been given extra attention by the Eagles. Offensive line coach Jeff Stoutland traveled to Groveton, Texas, for a private workout at Johnson's former high school. Last Sunday, Johnson went to Philadelphia to meet with head coach Chip Kelly, owner Jeff Lurie and others.

Johnson has been a steady riser up draft boards since the end of the 2012 college football season. He earned rave reviews at Senior Bowl practices in Alabama, and wowed at the NFL Combine with a 4.72 in the 40-yard dash, 34-inch vertical leap and 118-inch broad jump.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Johnson, Joeckel and Fisher will all be off the board within the first seven picks of the draft, if not sooner. Johnson falling No. 4 to Philadelphia makes plenty sense if the team feels his skillset is the best fit for what Kelly is attempting to do on offense.
