The Broncos’ offense excelled during Peyton Manning’s first season in Denver, but he wants it to be even better next season.

The Broncos averaged roughly 68 offensive plays per game last season, but Manning said that is a number Denver would like to increase this season. The Patriots led the league by averaging over 75 plays per game. More plays not only gives Denver additional opportunities, but Manning said the Broncos play better with increased tempo.
“For whatever reason, our offense plays better the faster we go. I think that was clear cut last season. The receivers liked it; they got into a rhythm,” Manning said, via the Denver Post. “Anything we can do as an offense to build off that, anything we can do to make us more efficient as an offense, that’s what we’re looking to do.”
Denver averaged 5.7 yards per play last season, the 10th highest in the NFL. If the Broncos were able to speed the tempo up enough to add seven more plays per game, Denver would gain an extra 40 yards per game. If the Broncos kept their rate of scoring similar, Denver would up its scoring just over three points per game.
Increased plays would also give Manning additional targets to spread around. Demaryius Thomas and Eric Decker return, with Wes Welker joining the receiving corps to give Denver a slew of offensive weapons.
