Heath Miller injury update: Steelers TE ‘looks great’

After suffering a major knee injury in Week 16, Heath Miller is apparently recovering well according to Ben Roethlisberger

Charles LeClaire-USA TODAY Sport

Heath Miller's status for the 2013 season is still very much in question, but the Steelers tight end "looks great" according to Pittsburgh quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Miller tore his ACL, PCL and MCL in Week 16. He underwent surgery on his ACL and MCL in early January, but is walking without a limp, according to Roethlisberger.

“Heath is working out and he looks great,” Roethlisberger said during an appearance on 102.5 WDVE. “He’s walking without a limp. From what I saw I think he looked good.”

Major knee injuries like the one Miller suffered can take a full year or more to heal. Players have recovered faster in recent seasons, but it’s impossible to predict anything from Miller next season, no matter how good he looks in April. If he’s able to participate when training camp rolls around in late July, Miller could have a chance to open the season on the active roster. If not, he will likely begin the season on the physically unable to perform list.

With Miller still a question mark going forward, Pittsburgh may consider drafting a tight end early in the 2013 NFL Draft. A number of NFL Draft prognosticators have projected Pittsburgh to select Notre Dame tight end Tyler Eifert with the No. 17 pick in the draft.
