Selecting an offensive linemen with the No. 1 pick in the NFL Draft wouldn't be a surprise, but the Kansas City Chiefs could surprise some by taking Eric Fisher and not Luke Joeckel.
NFL Draft 2013: Buzz increases on Eric Fisher to Chiefs
Most project the Chiefs to take an offensive linemen, but could Kansas City be leaning toward selecting Eric Fisher instead of Luke Joeckel?

After being linked to Joeckel for weeks leading up to next week’s NFL Draft, the Chiefs could instead opt to take Fisher with the No. 1 pick, according to Daniel Jeremiah of NFL.com. Jeremiah said he wouldn’t be shocked if the Chiefs take Fisher, adding there is a lot of buzz connecting Kansas City to the Central Michigan left tackle.
As Joel Thorman of Arrowhead Pride wrote, many believe Fisher has higher upside than Joeckel. One NFC general manager said Fisher’s athleticism gives him an edge and if you want upside, he is the pick. NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock recently moved Fisher ahead of Joeckel in his offensive line rankings with a higher upside being the deciding factor.
Fisher, who is ranked as the No. 4 prospect on Mocking the Draft's top 200 players, would also bring some versatility. The Chiefs currently have left tackle Branden Albert on their roster and Fisher recently said he would be willing to play right tackle as a rookie.
While the Chiefs may now favor Fisher, we will have to wait and see who they ultimately select on April 25. In his latest mock draft, SB Nation’s Matthew Fairburn projects the Chiefs to take Joeckel with Fisher going No. 5 overall to Detroit.
