The Miami Dolphins are interested in Kansas City's Branden Albert, and could potentially trade for the left tackle prior to the NFL Draft, according to a report from Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.

The Chiefs have shopped left tackle Branden Albert, and the Miami Dolphins could be a potential trade partner.

The Chiefs used the franchise tag to keep Albert from becoming an unrestricted free agent, but have been shopping him on the trade market. Kansas City is reportedly seeking a second-round draft pick in return for Albert. The Dolphins are a natural trade partner — not only did Miami lose starting left tackle Jake Long in free agency, but they currently hold two second-round picks.
Miami has the 42nd and 54th picks in the draft after a trade with Indianapolis. The Chiefs have reportedly been seeking a high second-rounder, but it remains to be seen if Miami would be willing to include the 42nd pick in a trade for Albert. If not, the No. 54 pick may be the best offer Kansas City will receive. Will it be enough to entice the Chiefs to make a deal?
Kansas City is expected to take an offensive tackle with the No. 1 overall pick, but could play whoever they draft at right tackle next season. Assuming he doesn’t sign a long-term deal in Kansas City and the Chiefs don’t franchise him for a second time, Albert would likely depart as an unrestricted free agent next year. In that case, Kansas City would likely receive a compensatory draft pick, although it’s unlikely to be higher than a late third-round pick.
Albert, who said he will not report for offseason activities until his future is worked out, did not show up for Kansas City’s voluntary mini-camp this week. If a trade between Miami and Kansas City does happen, it could occur prior to the NFL Draft. Albert has dealt with back issues throughout his career and Miami will likely want to run him through medical tests before finalizing the deal.
