2013 NFL draft news: Luke Joeckel may not be a lock for Chiefs at No. 1

The Chiefs could look elsewhere and former Alabama standout Eddie Lacy visits with New England.

USA TODAY Sports

With the first round of the NFL Draft just a week away, players are still slipping and sliding up draft boards and front offices are -- you guessed it -- incredibly vague about their intentions for the four-day event. There are a lot of things to take in as the draft approaches.

Russell Wilson wasn't heard from on the first day of the draft in 2012, but then he led the Seahawks to a deep playoff run. Chris Long was supposed to change the stars of St. Louis' defense, but has yet to prove himself on the big stage. The respective futures of each team was greatly affected by what they saw unfold in the NFL Draft.

The Chiefs are on the board right now, but who will they pick in a week's time?

-The Chiefs seem like they will probably take an offensive tackle, but which one? Luke Joeckel or Eric Fisher? More and more people are starting to think Fisher may actually go first. Fisher has the size and athleticism to compete at the NFL level. He was the anchor of Central Michigan’s offensive line before entering the draft, and the 6’7 lineman is a safer pick, according to the Arrowhead Pride Blog.

-Former Alabama standout Eddie Lacy visited with New England Patriots, according to ESPN Boston. The Patriots are often fond of second- and third-round running backs, having taken Stevan Ridley and Shane Vereen in previous years. Lacy helped the Crimson Tide win the national title in 2012, dominating a Notre Dame defense that featured potential first-round pick Mant'i Teo. Take a gander at Pats Pulpit for more on the Patriots upcoming draft prospects.

-Speaking of visits, the Bears hosted former Oregon linebacker Kiko Alonso. He has many questions about his off-the-field behavior, but few can question his speed. Louis Bien just can't avoid the Brian Urlacher comparison.

-The Eagles have a big choice to make with the 4th pick. Brandon Lee has the Eagles possibly trading down.

-And finally, in the wild speculation department, teams aren’t sold that BYU’s Ezekial Ansah is really 24. After coming over from Ghana in 2008, Ansah has developed into a pure pass-rushing talent, flying up draft boards all over the league. But he appears to suffer from Greg Oden-itis, with lines in his face making scouts skeptical they aren’t looking at someone closer to be over-the-hill from an NFL perspective.
