Mark Sanchez criticizes Jets for Tebow media craze

The quarterback didn’t do himself any favors last year, but he put the blame for the media circus that surrounded the team all year squarely on Jets management.

Unless you live under a rock, you are all too aware of the quarterback situation for the New York Jets. The team has been the center of a media circus since they traded for Tim Tebow, and Mark Sanchez thinks the team did a poor job of keeping distractions to a minimum, reports NFL.com's Marc Sessler.

Speaking in an interview on Fox Sports Radio on Thursday (via Sessler), Sanchez put the blame for all the distractions on the team, not Tebow, whom he called “[A] special person and a heck of a competitor.”

“Well, I think part of that, too, is ESPN didn’t necessarily sneak in overnight at our training camp,” Sanchez said. “They had to get permission to go. You can avoid that stuff on your own if you like, in my opinion, but (Tebow’s) a popular guy and people gravitate towards the guy. He’s a special person and a heck of a competitor, so people want to know what’s going on, but that’s all I got on that.”

Sanchez struggled mightily in 2012, turning the ball over 26 times in 15 games, and eventually losing his starting job by the end of the season. Tebow didn’t fare much better, throwing for only 39 yards all season, and not scoring a touchdown either on the ground or in the air. It’s unlikely that both Sanchez and Tebow will be on the roster when the regular season starts, but you never know with the Jets.
