NFL Draft 2013: Jarvis Jones will visit Pittsburgh Steelers

Jarvis Jones will visit the Steelers, according to reports. The former projected Top 10 pick could be a perfect fit for Pittsburgh at No. 17 overall.

Jarvis Jones is set to visit with the Pittsburgh Steelers ahead of the 2013 NFL Draft, according to Mark Kaboly of the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review. Until recently, Jones was a near-unanimous projected Top 10 draft pick. A poor showing at Georgia pro day has cast some doubt on his stock, however. The Steelers may be hoping that the talented pass rusher falls to them at No. 17 overall.

Jones had one of the best seasons of any player in college football last season. He led all FBS division players with 14.5 sacks and 24.5 tackles for loss on his way to earning First Team All-American honors according to coaches and the Associated Press. By tape alone, it’s easy to see why Jones has earned as much draft hype as he has.

Jones has had a rough offseason, however. He did not work out at the NFL Combine due to lingering concerns over a spinal injury that was fortunately determined not to be spinal stenosis. Jones prepared for pro day instead, but after a hamstring injury scare he eventually ran a disappointing 4.85 in the 40-yard dash. He also jumped just 9’3 in the broad jump, which would have put him dead last among players at his position in Indianapolis.

In SB Nation's latest mock draft Jones is projected to go No. 15 overall to the New Orleans Saints, just two spots ahead of the Steelers' first round pick. If Jones drops that far, Pittsburgh may be tempted to trade up given their clear need for a pass-rushing outside linebacker now that James Harrison appears to be on his way out.
