Fred Davis injury update: Redskins TE expected back by June

Fred Davis is expected to resume full activity by June, after undergoing surgery to repair a ruptured Achilles’ tendon that ended his 2012 season in Week 7.

Fred Davis is expected to be cleared for full activity by June, after undergoing surgery to repair a torn Achilles' tendon. The Washington Redskins recently re-signed Davis to a one-year contract worth up to $3.75 million next season.

Davis visited the Buffalo Bills after hitting free agency, and was set to meet with the New York Jets before canceling the visit and returning home to Washington D.C. to sign a new deal. Davis will earn $1 million in base salary, $1.5 million from his signing bonus, and another potential $1.75 million in incentives.

Davis' 2012 season ended in Week 7 after he ruptured his left Achilles' tendon. Up to that point, he had been turning in a solid season, picking up 24 receptions for 325 yards as a short-intermediate outlet for Robert Griffin III. Davis will be expected to reprise his starting role, though Logan Paulsen could challenge for playing time after playing well late in the season.

If Davis can get through the 2013 season without any injury setbacks, a long-term deal in 2014 is not out of the question. The Bills reportedly offered him a two-year deal, but the money offered over the course of the contract was only slightly more than what the Redskins offered for one year.
