Chiefs draft rumors: Kansas City narrows it down to 4

General manager John Dorsey has whittled down his list for the first overall pick to four players.

Kevin Jairaj-USA TODAY Sports

At a press conference on Friday afternoon, the Kansas City Chiefs general manager John Dorsey told a group of reporters that he has narrowed the candidates for the top overall pick to four players, according to the Kansas City Star.

While Dorsey didn't divulge who those four are, we can make an educated guess. The Chiefs appear to need a offensive tackle after releasing Eric Winston. It should also be noted that they're letting current left tackle Branden Albert talk with the Miami Dolphins about working out a long-term contract while Kansas City has the franchise tag on him, perhaps readying for a trade.

All of those factors would lead us to believe Eric Fisher of the Central Michigan Chippewas and Luke Joeckel of the Texas A&M Aggies are half of those four. The other two are a bit trickier.

With Alex Smith in tow, it’s a tough sell to think it’s Geno Smith or any other surprise quarterback.

The Chiefs were at the Oregon pro day in large numbers, so it would make sense if linebacker Dion Jordan is still on their radar. However, Jordan is an outside linebacker and Kansas City is starting two pro bowlers in their 3-4 defense at that spot with Tamba Hali and Justin Houston.

It’s conceivable that Jordan could be moved inside where the Chiefs have a starting job available next to Derrick Johnson, but teams generally don’t take the first overall pick and move him to another position.

As for the fourth mystery player, that's up for debate, although smart money is probably on defensive lineman Sharrif Floyd of the Florida Gators. Floyd can play multiple positions on the defensive front and has risen up draft boards in recent months.
