Rams rumors: Rodger Saffold not on the trading block

The St. Louis Rams have no intention of trading offensive tackle Rodger Saffold.

USA TODAY Sports

After a move this offseason by the St. Louis Rams to sign left tackle Jake Long, there were rumblings that tackle Rodger Saffold wanted out of St. Louis. That is no longer the case, according to the National Football Post:

With the 16th and 22nd pick in the first round, the Rams are in prime position to make a draft day deal. And they are interested, both in moving up and potentially moving down. What they are not interested in doing is dealing Roger Saffold. The offensive tackle was rumored to be disgruntled after being moved to right tackle from left, but things have calmed down now. The expectation inside the organization is Saffold will be a part of the team for a long time.

Saffold was initially displeased with his possible displacement from left to right tackle, and was in fact not returning phone calls from the team about the possible position switch. However, this week the offensive lineman did appear and participate in voluntary offseason workouts with the Rams, seeming to indicate that the player and team had worked through at least some of their issues.

Entering this season, Saffold has started 35 games at left tackle for St. Louis. A tackle duo of Long, the former No. 1 overall pick in the draft, and Saffold could help the development of Rams quarterback Sam Bradford, with the veteran offensive lineman hopefully keeping the QB off the turf.
