2013 NFL Draft schedule: Action begins Thursday, continues through the weekend

The newest crop of players will enter the NFL this week with the 2013 NFL Draft beginning Thursday.

Jerry Lai-US PRESSWIRE

After months of prodding, workouts, visits, smokescreens and mock drafts, the 2013 NFL Draft is almost here. The NFL altered the draft schedule in 2010 and as a result the 2013 version will begin on Thursday and continue for three days.

The first round of the draft will be held on Thursday and is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. ET. After an introduction from NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, the Kansas City Chiefs will be placed on the clock to get things rolling. One of the reasons behind the shift in the draft schedule was to put the first round in prime-time and as a result there will be plenty of media coverage.

The NFL Network and ESPN will broadcast live from the draft with complete coverage of all seven rounds. Beyond breakdowns of each pick, both networks will conduct interviews during the draft. A number of drafted players will be on hand with 23 players scheduled to attend the draft.

Teams will work through the second and third rounds of the draft on Friday, with the second round scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. ET. After a somewhat prolonged first round, the picks will begin to move quickly in the second and third rounds. Teams have a seven minute time limit to make their second-round picks and five minutes per pick from the third round on.

The biggest names will come off the board in the first two days, but there will still be plenty of action on the third and final day. The 2013 NFL Draft will conclude with the fourth through seventh rounds on Saturday. Saturday’s proceedings will begin at noon and continue until the final pick is made.

April 25, 8 p.m.: 1st round

April 26, 6:30 p.m.: 2-3 rounds

April 27, 12 p.m.: 4-7 rounds
