NFL Draft 2013: Lions deny interest in Dee Milliner at No. 5

Detroit doesn’t appear to be looking for cornerback help despite having an awful secondary last year.

Many experts believe that the Detroit Lions will take cornerback Dee Milliner of the Alabama Crimson Tide with the fifth-overall pick on Thursday in the 2013 NFL Draft.

Those people apparently have not talked to Detroit's general manager Martin Mayhew. Mayhew says the Lions have the corners they love in-house, talking of the three he drafted last season - Bill Bentley, Jonte Green and Chris Greenwood, according to the Detroit News.

“I like the three guys we drafted last season,” Mayhew said. “All three are good players and we expect them to be around for a long time.”

This is somewhat of a surprise considering how atrocious the Lions were last season in terms of pass coverage. Despite being ranked 14th in yards allowed, any Detroit fan would say the coverage was sub-par, with teams always able to pick up chunks of yardage.

However, Detroit is also deficient at the offensive tackle spot, giving them other options in a draft loaded with top prospects at the position.

Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press has Oklahoma Sooner tackle Lane Johnson going to the Lions at No. 5. Johnson is considered to be the third-best offensive line prospect in the draft behind Luke Joeckel of Texas A&M and Eric Fisher of Central Michigan.

Johnson would be a good fit for the Lions considering the need for a young offensive tackle. Following Jeff Backus' retirement, Detroit needs someone to pair with Riley Reiff, a tackle the team drafted last year out of Iowa.

In SB Nation's latest NFL mock draft, Dan Kadar has Fisher headed to the Motor City to protect Matthew Stafford's blind side. Fisher is a mountain at 6'7 and some believe he is even better than Joeckel.
