Nate Burleson injury update: Lions WR ahead of schedule in return

The Lions receiver is months ahead of schedule on his recovery from a broken leg.

Tim Fuller-US PRESSWIRE

Detroit Lions wide receiver Nate Burleson is well ahead of schedule on his rehab from a broken leg, according to NFL.com. Burleson broke his leg back in October against the Chicago Bears, and missed the rest of the 2012 season.

Burleson said that he’s ahead of schedule on his rehab, and should be good to go for the beginning of the regular season:

“The great news is I’m healed up,” Burleson said. “I just got news from my doctors that the bone is good. I’m running and jumping three months ahead of schedule.”

He had 27 receptions for 240 yards and two touchdowns in six games in 2012, but had a career-high 73 catches in 2011. If Burleson can remain healthy for a full season, it adds another dimension to the Detroit passing game and doesn’t allow defenses to focus so completely on Calvin Johnson. Burleson also said that he would welcome the team drafting another wide receiver, although it doesn’t seem likely that the team will draft a receiver with the fifth-overall pick.
