2013 NFL Draft: Steelers linked to Tyler Bray

The Steelers aren’t necessarily in the market for a quarterback, but sound like they are interested in taking a chance on Tyler Bray.

Scott Cunningham

The Pittsburgh Steelers could be interested in Tennessee quarterback Tyler Bray, according to Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The Steelers aren't quite ready to take the successor to Ben Roethlisberger, but could take a flyer on Bray and have him sit and develop for a few years.

Bray has all the physical tools to be an NFL quarterback today, but his mental and emotional makeup suggests that he needs a few years to develop into that role. The Steelers would present an ideal destination for him, as he wouldn’t necessarily be counted on to play right away. The team’s decision makers attended his pro day workout last month in Knoxville, and reportedly had dinner with him the night before.

Bray’s tenure at Tennessee was marked by disappointment in terms of the team’s record, but he was often forced to try to throw the Vols back into games against superior SEC competition. He completed over 59 percent of his passes in 2012, throwing for 3,612 yards, 34 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions.
