Seahawks sign Kam Chancellor to 4-year extension

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly signed safety Kam Chancellor to a four-year contract extension, keeping him in Seattle through 2017.

The Seattle Seahawks have reportedly signed safety Kam Chancellor to a four-year contract extension, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL.com on Monday. The report states that Chancellor's contract is worth $28 million over its length, with a whopping $17 million guaranteed.

Chancellor was already under contract for 2013, so he will remain with the team through the 2017 season. As noted by Field Gulls, the team has announced a press conference for 2 p.m. pacific, where they will likely announce the deal.

Chancellor, 25, is just one part of one of the NFL's top secondaries. The unit improved dramatically with the addition of Antoine Winfield to lock up slot receivers behind Brandon Browner and Richard Sherman, two young corners who are establishing themselves among the NFL's elite.

That also means the Seahawks will have one of the best safety pairings in the NFL with Earl Thomas at the other position in the secondary. Thomas will likely require an extension soon, however, so it will be interesting to see if the Seahawks can keep the two together.

Seattle has had a very strong offseason thus far, with additions that include pass rushers Cliff Avril and Michael Bennett and wide receiver Percy Harvin.
