NFLPA partners with DocuSign for mobile contract signings

The NFLPA is attempting to avoid the types of fax machine issues Elvis Dumervil dealt with last month.

Mark J. Rebilas-USA TODAY Sports

The NFL Players Association agreed to a deal with DocuSign Tuesday, according to Kurt Badenhausen of Forbes, giving players the option to sign contracts via mobile devices.

The agreement comes roughly six weeks after Elvis Dumervil agreed to a pay cut with the Denver Broncos, but was released because the contract was faxed in after the deadline. With DocuSign, contract signings will be instantaneous, meaning there shouldn't be any glitches that lead to situations like Dumervil's.

Dumervil's fax machine blunder actually earned the linebacker more money in 2013. He had agreed to a deal with the Broncos that would have paid him $8 million this season, but instead, he signed a five-year, $35 million contract with the Baltimore Ravens. Dumervil will earn $8.5 million in 2013 with the defending Super Bowl champions.

DocuSign has been used for more than 290 million documents since the company’s inception in 2003, according to its website.
