2013 NFL Draft: Tulane QB Ryan Griffin makes the rounds

Griffin may not be considered among the top quarterbacks in the draft, but he’s drawn interest from plenty of teams.

Geno Smith, E.J. Manuel and other quarterbacks have been linked to multiple teams, but no quarterback went through more private pre-draft workouts than Tulane’s Ryan Griffin. Griffin worked out for Jacksonville, Philadelphia, San Diego and Pittsburgh, according to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen.

Griffin is likely to be taken in the mid-rounds of the 2013 NFL Draft. He has impressed during the lead up to the draft, dating all the way back to the Texas vs. The Nation game in early February. Griffin was one of the most impressive prospects at the event with draft analysts praising his arm strength and quick release.

At 6’4 and 227 pounds, Griffin has prototypical size for an NFL quarterback. Even if his accuracy and timing need work, he has enough attributes to be an intriguing developmental selection. Teams not in desperate need for a starting quarterback could envision him as a future starter, or possible trade bait if they are able to develop his skill set.

SB Nation’s Dan Kadar ranked Griffin as the No. 14 quarterback in the 2013 NFL Draft. Once considered a likely late-round pick, Griffin has increased his stock and could have even worked his way into the second day of the draft. He will likely come off the board no later than the fifth round.
