Eagles prefer Barkevious Mingo to Dion Jordan with No. 4 pick, per report

Maybe there won’t be an Oregon reunion in Philadelphia with Chip Kelly and Dion Jordan after all.

Kim Klement-US PRESSWIRE

The Philadelphia Eagles are eyeing a pass-rusher with the No. 4 overall pick in the NFL Draft, but not the one most expected them to target. According to Jason La Canfora, the team is leaning toward drafting Barkevious Mingo instead of Dion Jordan, which would fly in the face of most recent mock drafts and reports.

More from our team blogs: Eagles blog Bleeding Green Nation

Eagles head coach Chip Kelly coached Jordan at Oregon and with the team rumored to be interested in drafting a pass-rusher, it made sense that they would choose Jordan. It’s not as if it would be a reach, either. Many people regard Jordan as the best pass-rusher in the draft so the Oregon connection would just be the cherry on top of what could be a sensible pick for the Eagles.

But maybe the Eagles don’t have Jordan atop their draft board. Mingo is an incredible talent who lit up the combine with some incredible workouts. He ran a 4.58 second 40 and was among the best defensive ends in the vertical jump, broad jump and three cone drill, too. There are concerns about his less-than-spectacular production at LSU, but if the Eagles believe they can tap into Mingo’s exceptional raw skills then they may draft him over Jordan, college ties be damned.
