2013 NFL Draft team needs: St. Louis Rams

After a solid first season under Jeff Fisher, the Rams could be poised to contend in 2013. Will a strong draft help them get there?

With the Seattle Seahawks and San Francisco 49ers leading the way, the NFC West appears to be one of the toughest divisions in the NFL. The St. Louis Rams played their division foes better than anyone last year and now the Rams could be poised to make it a three team race.

The Rams made progress under first-year head coach Jeff Fisher last season, but there are still holes to fill in St. Louis. The Rams lost a few big names in free agency, including Steven Jackson and Danny Amendola. Jared Cook will give Sam Bradford another weapon, but St. Louis could still use more talent at the skill positions. Defensively, the Rams have a glaring hole in the back of their defense as both starters at safety from a year ago are not currently in the picture. Craig Dahl signed with San Francisco while Quintin Mikell was released. With very little depth on the roster, St. Louis could possibly add two safeties early in the draft.

Top three team needs:

Safety - The Rams currently have three safeties on the roster, all three of which were undrafted free agents coming out of college. Matthew Daniels and Rodney McLeod just finished their rookie seasons while Darian Stewart is the veteran of the group with three years of experience. None of the three played a major role for St. Louis last season.

Wide receiver - Wide receiver wasn't considered a strength for the Rams last season and that was before Amendola and Brandon Gibson both left via free agency. The Rams have some young talent with players like Chris Givens and Brian Quick, but could stand to add another play maker to the group.

Guard - The offensive line has been an issue for the Rams in recent seasons and while they've made improvements, there is still some work to be done. The Rams are set at tackle with Jake Long and Rodger Saffold. Harvey Dahl is coming off a solid season at right guard, but the Rams could use another guard to pair with him.

Ideal pick: Tavon Austin, WR, West Virginia
