D.J. Fluker denies taking money at Alabama

In his public comments since his controversial tweet, D.J. Fluker denied having ever taken money while he was at Alabama.

D.J. Fluker spoke at a pre-draft event Wednesday and denied ever taking money while he was an athlete at Alabama, according to NFL.com. "They know it's not me," Fluker said. "Look at my Twitter, it's all ... motivational tweets."

Fluker claims he was hacked when a tweet from his account went up Tuesday saying, “Yea I took $ n college so wat. I did wat i had to do. Agents was tryin to pimp me so I pimped them. Cast da 1st stone.” While “I was hacked!” is often an excuse for those trying to save face from an ill-conceived tweet, Fluker has a pretty good case to make.

As SB Nation’s Jason Kirk points out, Fluker’s now-suspended Twitter account was composed mostly of Bible verses and retweets up until the offending tweet. His Twitter persona wasn’t apt to say anything controversial, and the fact that the tweet happened just two days before the draft is also suspicious.

Hacked or not, the incident likely won’t affect Fluker’s draft status much. He has been solidly in the first round for much of the evaluation period, and NFL coaches ultimately care about talent first and foremost. In the meantime, however, Fluker will be doing as much damage control as he can.
