With the No. 22 overall pick in the 2013 NFL draft, the Atlanta Falcons have selected cornerback Desmond Trufant out of the University of Washington. Trufant was ranked as the third-best corner in this year's draft by SB Nation's Dan Kadar, and the 25th-best overall player.
NFL Draft Results 2013: Desmond Trufant selected by Falcons with pick No. 22
Desmond Trufant could be starting opposite Asante Samuel for the Falcons this year.

The Falcons traded with the Rams to move up to pick No. 22. Speculation about their interest in Trufant started early during draft hype.
With Brent Grimes gone, Atlanta needs another starting cornerback. Asante Samuel is firmly in place at the top of that list. Robert McClain played well in the slot last season, but their depth drops off after that point. Trufant has a good chance to start on the outside in 2013.

Trufant was a Pac-12 honorable mention in both his sophomore and junior seasons before taking a step up as a senior, being named to the All-Pac-12 first-team. He has the size, strength and speed to succeed in the NFL. If Trufant can become a better tackler and eliminate some of his mental lapses, he has the chance to be a very special player.
