NFL Draft rumors: Tavon Austin not dropping below No. 10, Adam Schefter says

It seems like Austin will be off the board by the time the No. 11 pick rolls around, but whether he’s a Bill, a Jet -- or something else -- is still unclear.

USA TODAY Sports

This shouldn’t be a surprise, but Adam Schefter reports that there’s no way West Virginia spark plug wide receiver Tavon Austin gets beyond the top 10 picks of Thursday night’s NFL Draft. From Rotoworld:

“He will not get past the top-10 picks,” Schefter stated. “That will not happen.”

Austin is only 5’8, but as you can read in his scouting report, his unreal speed and ability to change directions make him an elite prospect despite his lack of NFL height. The question is: who will take him? Dan Kadar’s final attempt at the first round for Mocking the Draft resulted in Austin going No. 9 to the Jets, but that’s far from the only option.

The highest Austin’s been talked about is No. 4 to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he could be a blur in the high-paced offense Chip Kelly is trying to install, especially if there aren’t any left tackles left on the board.

He could also be gone at No. 8, where the Bills reportedly have Austin No. 1 on their board, but this could just be a ploy to get teams to trade up to get Austin -- something several teams are apparently willing to do. And if nobody nabs him first, it appears the Jets will grab Austin at No. 9.

If Schefter’s right, we won’t have to wait long to find out.
