With the No. 62 overall pick in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks selected running back Christine Michael out of Texas A&M. Michael is rated as the No. 144 overall prospect and No. 13 running back in his class by SB Nation’s Dan Kadar.
NFL Draft 2013 results: Christine Michael selected by Seahawks at No. 62
The Seahawks picked up a running back to complement Marshawn Lynch with the last pick in the second round.

Michael got off to a sterling start to his Texas A&M career, earning Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year honors, but a broken right tibia and torn ACL limited him in his sophomore and junior seasons. Healthy again in 2012, Michael had high hopes to put together a great season in College Station before heading to the NFL, but he butted heads with new head coach Kevin Sumlin, was suspended twice and ended up serving mainly as the Aggies’ short-yardage back, where he did manage to score 12 touchdowns.
With great power and surprisingly good speed, Michael has the physical tools that could make him a good NFL back, but his suspensions in 2012 are a concern and so are his injuries. Even if his senior season troubles were just a matter of clashing personalities, his injury concerns may have pushed him down in the draft, but if he is healthy then he has the chance to be a steal.
The Seahawks are obviously counting on Lynch to carry the load, but Michael has the capability to be a good change of pace back, who can also catch passes out of the backfield from Russell Wilson. He’s not going to take a ton of carries away from Lynch, but he could at least give beast mode a breather every now and again.
