2013 NFL Draft results: Jon Bostic selected by Bears with 50th pick

The Bears possibly find Brian Urlacher’s replacement in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.

Sam Greenwood

With the 50th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Bears selected Florida Gators linebacker Jon Bostic. Bostic is the No. 7 inside linebacker on SB Nation's rankings of the position.

Bostic was one of the leaders on an elite Florida defense in 2012. He briefly considered entering the NFL after the 2011 season, but most felt it would have been a mistake after an average campaign as a junior. His decision to remain in school paid off, as he helped Florida improve from 7-6 to 11-2 on the back of their strong defense and got him drafted in the second round.

The Bears were unable to re-sign long-time linebacker Brian Urlacher after the 2012 season and could look to Bostic to step in as the team’s new inside linebacker. Bostic is a talented linebacker who has shown to be a solid run stopper and in pass coverage. He may be able to start in Week 1.

Combine Results:
Height: 6'1
Weight: 246 pounds
Bench press: 22
40-yard dash: 4.56 seconds
Vertical jump: 33.5 inches
Broad jump: 118 inches
Three-cone drill: 6.99 seconds
20-yard shuffle: 4.24 seconds

Bostic had 62 tackles, three sacks and two interceptions as a senior. He’s proven himself to be a reliable run stopper and a strong athletic talent when it comes to running down receivers. During his senior season, he earned the “aggressive’ label and it’s well-earned, at that. He’s not one to shy away from contact, in other words.

He had a strong showing at the combine. Given the relative strength at his position, it was no secret that he wasn’t going to go in the first round but his talent isn’t much in doubt at this point, either.
