The Green Bay Packers and Aaron Rodgers agreed to a contract extension on Friday which will make Rodgers the highest-paid player in NFL history, according to Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports.

Aaron Rodgers will be staying in Green Bay for the foreseeable future after he and the Packers agreed to a long-term deal on Friday.

The two sides had been discussing an extension throughout the offseason with most insiders expecting the deal to get done before the start of training camp. Earlier this month, the two sides were reported to be $2 million per season apart on a deal. While terms of the deal haven't been released, Rodgers deal is expected to surpass the six-year, $120.6 million deal Joe Flacco signed with Baltimore.
This is the second extension Rodgers signed with Green Bay. After being selected with the No. 24 pick of the 2005 NFL Draft, Rodgers signed a six-year $63.52 million deal in 2008. That deal was set to expire after the 2014 season. Packers general manger Ted Thompson had high praise for Rodgers in a press release issued by the team.
“Aaron is a true professional and a special player,” Thompson said. “He works hard, is humble, and is focused on his actions, on and off the field. He is an excellent teammate and pushes himself and others to be the very best. We are happy to reach an agreement to extend his career with the Packers.”
Rodgers is the second Packer to sign a long-term deal this month as Clay Matthews agreed to an extension last week.
