NFL Draft results: Damontre Moore finally off the board, Saints trade up for John Jenkins

The New Orleans Saints made a trade to land John Jenkins, and defensive end Damontre Moore stopped his slide and is headed to the New York Giants in the third round.

USA TODAY Sports

The picks are coming rapid-fire now as the 2013 NFL Draft continues in the third round on Friday night. At No. 81, the New York Giants made defensive lineman Damontre Moore out of Texas A&M their selection, which was followed up by picks of defensive tackle John Jenkins out of Georgia for the New Orleans Saints at No. 82 and cornerback Logan Ryan out of Rutgers for the New England Patriots at No. 83.

Moore had a terrific campaign in 2012 for Texas A&M, registering 12.5 sacks and 80 tackles as a junior. Even more impressive, he spread his production out, affecting almost every game. Throughout the season, only four times did Moore fail to register a sack. Unfortunately, he had a poor showing at the Scouting Combine and quickly fell from the expected top-10 status all the way to this point in the third round.

However, Moore’s future should be bright with the Giants, a team that values strong defensive line play more than anything else. Moore should be able to earn significant playing time in his rookie season.

New Orleans traded up into the No. 82 pick to bring in Jenkins. They’ll likely need a crane or something similar to do so, though, as Jenkins is one of the largest players in the draft at 346 pounds. He’s a big space-eater and the Saints will likely use him as such.

Ryan makes sense for the Patriots, who have been trying to hit on a cornerback in this range for some time now. The cornerback position has been a weakness for New England for some time now, but Ryan does have an awful lot of upside. It's likely he'll come in and compete for some playing time at nickel, though the Patriots would love for him to become a full-time starter next to Devin McCourty.
