The Arizona Cardinals made headlines when they selected Tyrann Mathieu in the third round, but despite his off-the-field issues, most reacted positively to Mathieu's selection.

Tyrann Mathieu came off the board in the third round and his selection prompted plenty of reaction on the Internet.

The Cardinals are an intriguing fit for Mathieu as not only did they select his teammate Kevin Minter in the second round, but Arizona has several LSU players on its roster. Among them is Pro Bowl cornerback Patrick Peterson, who is very good friends with Mathieu. Peterson was excited to be reunited with Mathieu.

Peterson wasn’t the Cardinal cornerback to praise the selection. NFL Hall of Famer Aeneas Williams also praised Mathieu following the pick.

Arizona has more ties to Mathieu than just his former teammates. Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is familiar with Mathieu as his step-daughter once dated Mathieu.

Mathieu had issues off the field and was reportedly suspended for failing multiple drug tests, but during an interview with ESPN, Mathieu said he will undergo weekly drug tests with the Cardinals.

While his history off the field could make Mathieu a risk, it wouldn’t be the first time Arizona gambled on a player with character question marks. Their last gamble turned out fairly well.
