Day 2 of the NFL Draft is in the books, and for the most part, the best outside linebackers in the class are long gone. Oregon's Dion Jordan, LSU's Barkevious Mingo and Georgia's Jarvis Jones all went in the first round. Jamie Collins of Southern Miss was taken in the second round, and Connecticut's Sio Moore got scooped up early in the third round. Zaviar Gooden of Missouri rounded out the day by being the last pick of the third round.
NFL Draft 2013 best available: Khaseem Greene leads outside linebackers
As we head into the final day of the NFL Draft, let’s take a look at the best OLBs still available on the board.
However, there’s still a bunch of talent left at this position on the final day of the draft. Let’s see who they are.
Best Outside Linebackers Available
1. Khaseem Greene, Rutgers
2012 stats: 136 tackles, 6.0 sacks, 6 forced fumbles, 2 interceptions
One of the best linebackers left in the draft, Greene probably shouldn’t be waiting much longer to hear his name called. Greene has good sideline-to-sideline ability and has a nose for the ball, but his lack of strength and poor instincts are big reasons why he’s still here.
2. Brandon Jenkins, Florida State
Once considered a first-round prospect, Jenkins’ draft stock was torpedoed by a Lisfranc injury he suffered in the season opener. It’s not a given that he will be ready for training camp.
3. Chase Thomas, Stanford
2012 stats: 71 tackles, 7.5 sacks, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble
Thomas had a productive career at Stanford, averaging over seven sacks a year during his three years as a starter. Doesn’t excel in any one part of the game, but scouts like his effort.
4. Jelani Jenkins, Florida
2012 stats: 29 tackles, 2.0 sacks, 1 interception
Jenkins is undersized, not much of a pass rusher and has problems staying healthy. Still, he projects to be a solid contributor out of the 4-3.
5. Gerald Hodges, Penn State
2012 stats: 109 tackles, 1.0 sack, 2 interceptions
A dependable playmaker, Hodges started every game at Penn State in 2011 and 2012 and racked up over 100 tackles in both seasons. Lack of ideal size or speed will limit his ceiling at the pro level.
