2013 NFL Draft Results: Breakdown of all 254 picks by position

What position was the most popular at the NFL Draft?

USA TODAY Sports

The 2013 NFL Draft started out as the year of the offensive lineman, with three of the top four and six of the top 11 players selected being lifted from the trenches. But how did that pan out over the rest of the draft?

The lure of offensive linemen didn’t wear off after the early selections. Nine offensive linemen were taken in the first round and a stunning total of 40 were picked in all seven rounds, making sure the draft finished with the moniker it started with — the year of the offensive lineman.

But the big men on the other side of the line got plenty of attention, too. Forty-nine defensive linemen were selected, making it the most popular position in the 2013 Draft. Ezekiel Ansah led the way for defensive linemen, going No. 6 overall to the Lions. He was followed by Barkevious Mingo with the next pick, and the defensive front continued to be a priority for all teams.

Unsurprisingly, quarterbacks weren’t especially popular. In what was considered a weak quarterback class, just 11 signal-callers were selected, with only one coming in the first round. In fact, just three were picked in the first three rounds of the draft, a year after quarterbacks were the top two overall picks and three were selected in the first round alone.

With the draft now in the rear-view mirror, here’s a look at how many players were picked at each position:

Quarterback: 11

Running back: 25

Wide Receiver: 29

Tight end: 16

Offensive Line: 40

Defensive Line: 49

Linebacker: 28

Cornerback: 30

Safety: 22

Kickers/punters: 4
