Davone Bess signs 3-year contract with Browns

The Browns have signed their new wide receiver to a multi-year deal.

The Cleveland Browns have signed newly acquired wide receiver Davone Bess to a three-year contract extension, according to a report by Adam Schefter. Cleveland traded for Bess during Friday's NFL Draft, sending their fourth and fifth round picks to the Miami Dolphins for Bess, a fourth round pick and a seventh round pick.

Bess had 61 catches for 778 yards and one touchdown for the Dolphins last season, making it five consecutive seasons in which he caught at least 50 passes. His best season came in 2010, when he had 79 receptions, 820 yards and five touchdowns, but when the Dolphins picked up Mike Wallace and Brandon Gibson, were free to move Bess for picks.

The Browns have been in the market for a wide receiver, hoping to help out a position that has given them problems in recent years. They get that in Bess, who should be able to slide into the third receiver role and help provide leadership for what is a young crop of wide outs.

Bess was scheduled to make $2.6 million in base salary in 2013. His new contract extension should take him through 2016.
