Jaguars land quarterbacks Matt Scott, Jordan Rodgers as undrafted free agents

Arizona quarterback Matt Scott and Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers both signed with the Jacksonville Jaguars as undrafted free agents on Saturday.

USA TODAY Sports

Former Arizona quarterback Matt Scott is heading to the Jacksonville Jaguars as an undrafted free agent, the player announced on his Twitter account Saturday. Scott was one of the better quarterbacks in the draft, but the class was weak as a whole, and he went undrafted.

Scott was considered a player with high potential, including the potential to compete for a starting job early on in his career in the leadup to the draft. The Jaguars are as good a team as any to facilitate Scott's ambition of earning a starting job, as neither Blaine Gabbert nor Chad Henne inspire much confidence.

The Jaguars also brought in Vanderbilt quarterback Jordan Rodgers as an undrafted free agent, as noted by Rodgers himself on Twitter.

It will be interesting to see how Rodgers factors into the equation with Scott, Henne and Gabbert. Scott is the much more-heralded player and is considered to be the more NFL-ready prospect. On top of that, most agree that his ceiling is higher, as well.

Gabbert will definitely have a leg up on the rest of the quarterbacks due to him holding the job next season, especially given how raw Scott and Rodgers are, but it wouldn’t be shocking at all to see the former compete and push Gabbert for the job.
