Carolina only had five selections in the 2013 NFL Draft, but the Panthers made the most of those five picks, filling perhaps the team's biggest hole with both their first and second round selections. Utah Utes defensive tackle Star Lotulelei fell to Carolina at No. 14 in the first round, and the Panthers quickly gobbled up the defensive tackle, even adding Purdue DT Kawann Short in the second stanza for good measure.
2013 undrafted free agent signings: Panthers add former Alabama safety Robert Lester
The Carolina Panthers drafted much-needed defensive tackle help in rounds 1 and 2 of the 2013 NFL Draft, and the focus on defense has continued in the signing of undrafted free agents.

Once the draft concluded, Carolina, like most teams, began searching for undrafted free agents. After eschewing a defensive back with their final pick (RB Kenjon Barner), the Panthers may have gotten a steal in UDFA safety Robert Lester, who started 40 of 48 games for the Crimson Tide over his collegiate career and owns three national championship rings.
