NFL undrafted free agents 2013: Titans grab WRs, intriguing Canadian prospects Stefan Charles and Matt Sewel

Poutine and maple syrup can grow some big boys, and the Tennessee Titans brought in a pair of 300-pounders from Canada.

Thearon W. Henderson

The Tennessee Titans dipped into some smaller schools -- and Canada, oddly enough -- as they search for players who they think can stick, signing at least 14 undrafted free agents after the 2013 NFL Draft wrapped up.

The Titans appear focused on wide receiver, bringing in three pass catchers after drafting Justin Hunter in the second round. Rashad Ross had six touchdowns in 2012 for Arizona State, while the other two tore it up in the FCS. Dontel Watkins went to Murray State, Travis Harvey comes from Florida A&M. Those are the Racers and the Rattlers, in case you’re wondering.

Two of the players in the Titans’ undrafted free-agent haul hail from north of the border. Stefan Charles from the University of Regina is a 6’5, 310-pound defensive lineman probably best suited for a tackle position, and Matt Sewell from McMaster University is a whopping 6’8, 335 pounds. They’ve played a slightly different version of the sport their entire lives, and they’ve never played against strong competition - the Canadian college football ranks would probably compare unfavorably to FCS or even Division II competition here in America - but their size is legitimate. There’s precedent for CIS players - Canadian Interuniversity Sport, duh - making it to the NFL, with the Bears’ Israel Idonije, the Chiefs’ Cory Greenwood, the Dolphins’ Vaughn Martin and the Saints’ Akiem Hicks all on NFL rosters. No Canadian players were drafted in 2013, although Hicks was a third-round pick in 2012.

Here’s an unofficial look at who the team brought in, courtesy of Music City Miracles:
