Undrafted free agents 2013: Matt Scott, Jordan Rodgers could provide QB depth for Jaguars

Competition at quarterback is never a bad thing, especially when your quarterbacks are Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne. The Jacksonville Jaguars kept that in mind when adding undrafted free agents after the 2013 NFL Draft wrapped up, bringing in Arizona’s Matt Scott and Vanderbilt’s Jordan Rodgers to fight for roster spots and maybe push for snaps come the 2013 season.

Scott had a strong 2012 after backing up Nick Foles for most of his college career, tossing for 3,620 yards and 27 touchdowns in a new spread offense under Rich Rodriguez. Rodgers, the kid brother of Aaron Rodgers -- a factoid you’ll hear 40 trillion times if he ever plays in an NFL game -- was part of a revival at Vanderbilt, where the Commodores, commonly relegated to the SEC’s doormat, won nine games for the first time in about 90 years behind 2,539 yards passing by Rodgers.

Scott and Rodgers probably won’t be long-term quarterbacks in the NFL anytime soon. They have flaws in their games that saw them graded as late-round picks and eventually bypassed by all 254 selections. But the Jags are looking for answers, and both guys have talent. Scott has the potential to play some option-type football, and Rodger’s arm isn’t so bad. Maybe the team can throw quarterback-turned-running-back Denard Robinson into the mix?
