Smith is obviously the favorite to win the starting job going forward, so Sanchez may be the odd man out. The Jets have a lot of quarterbacks on the roster, but none of them inspire much confidence. Sanchez has been the starter for four seasons, but it’s unlikely that he’ll be able to beat out Smith for a job next year, so there was some sentiment that he might ask for his release.
That said, he probably won't have to ask for his release. The Jets aren't happy with his salary (they wouldn't save much by cutting him, though) and the team clearly wants to move in a different direction. They also have Tim Tebow and David Garrard to deal with, though the latter would likely be a strong, cheap veteran presence behind Smith.
In short, it doesn’t look like there’s room on the Jets’ roster for Sanchez. As to whether or not he’ll find another team for 2013, it seems likely, but not in any kind of starting role. Sanchez threw for jut 2,883 yards with 13 touchdowns and 18 interceptions last season, completing just 54.3 percent of his passes.
